This is a remote position.

We are seeking a skilled, socially conscious, and creative freelance social media specialist to manage and grow the social media presence of a well-known local Foundation. The Foundation plays a pivotal role in advancing social impact, supporting vulnerable communities, and fostering inclusive development.

This role requires a strategist who is deeply attuned to social issues, is culturally aware, and understands how to craft compelling narratives that drive engagement, inspire action, and uphold the Foundation’s values.

Position Overview

We are looking for a skilled, socially conscious, and creative freelance social media specialist to manage and grow a well-known local Foundation's social media presence.

Key Responsibilities

Channel & Community Management

  • Manage day-to-day activity on platforms including X (Twitter), Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, and YouTube.
  • Monitor and respond to comments, messages, and mentions in a timely and thoughtful manner.
  • Flag and escalate sensitive or reputationally risky interactions when necessary.
  • Foster engagement and build online communities aligned with the Foundation’s values.

Content Development & Posting

  • At times draft compelling, brand-aligned copy for social media posts. We have a copywriter but sometimes this person may need to step in and help with copy.
  • Upload, schedule, and publish content across all platforms using scheduling tools (e.g., Hootsuite, Buffer, Meta Business Suite).
  • Source or collaborate on visual content (graphics, short-form video, photography).

Content Calendar & Campaigns

  • Develop and maintain a monthly content calendar in alignment with the Foundation’s programmatic themes and key dates.
  • Proactively suggest content ideas and reactive opportunities (e.g., global commemorations, relevant trending topics).
  • Assist with the planning and rollout of integrated digital campaigns for major initiatives and events.

Strategic Input

  • Contribute ideas for creative, values-based campaigns that support visibility, dialogue, and impact.
  • Monitor digital trends and best practices in cause-related and institutional social media.

Analytics & Reporting

  • Generate monthly social media reports detailing performance, engagement metrics, and growth.
  • Analyse data to provide insights and recommendations for improvement.
  • Track campaign outcomes and audience sentiment.

Requirements

To succeed in this role, you should meet the following criteria:

  • Proven experience as a freelance social media specialist, with a strong portfolio of impactful, purpose-driven work.

  • Deep understanding of social issues and a demonstrated commitment to socially conscious communication.

  • Excellent content skills, including writing, editing, and visual storytelling, with the ability to craft compelling narratives that resonate with diverse audiences.

  • Hands-on experience managing social media channels including Instagram, Facebook, X (Twitter), LinkedIn, and YouTube.

  • Proficiency with scheduling and analytics tools, such as Hootsuite, Buffer, Meta Business Suite, or similar platforms.

  • Strong community management skills, including moderating discussions, responding to messages, and managing reputational risk.

  • Cultural awareness and sensitivity, especially when engaging on issues of inclusivity, equity, and social justice.

  • Strategic mindset, with the ability to contribute to campaign ideation and align content with broader organisational goals.

  • Experience in developing and maintaining content calendars, as well as planning and rolling out thematic or event-based digital campaigns.

  • Competency in data analysis and reporting, with a track record of using insights to optimise content and grow engagement.

  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple deadlines, and communicate effectively with stakeholders.

  • Bonus: Experience working with non-profits, foundations, or impact-driven organisations is a strong plus.
