This freelance role offers a strategic opportunity to shape the structure, governance, and organization of content across complex digital ecosystems. You will partner closely with UX, Information Architecture, Product, and Engineering teams to ensure content is modeled, labeled, and organized to meet both user needs and business objectives. The position requires a senior-level professional with experience in content modeling, taxonomy design, and multi-site content frameworks. You will conduct audits, define governance rules, develop metadata standards, and create content frameworks that streamline user experiences while improving operational efficiency. The role offers autonomy, collaboration across diverse teams, and the chance to have a direct impact on large-scale digital initiatives.

Accountabilities:

  • Translate business goals and user needs into actionable content structures, frameworks, and schemas.
  • Develop and refine taxonomies, controlled vocabularies, labeling systems, metadata standards, and tagging approaches.
  • Create sitemaps, navigation models, and page-level content frameworks for multi-site ecosystems.
  • Conduct content audits and inventories to assess current states and identify opportunities for consolidation or replatforming.
  • Collaborate with UX/IA, Product, Copywriters, Designers, and Developers to ensure consistent application of content strategy across delivery.
  • Work with stakeholders to clarify terminology, governance rules, and content decision-making processes.
  • Continuously improve content governance and structure to support long-term digital strategy objectives.


Requirements
  • Senior-level experience in content strategy, information architecture, or content design for complex digital environments.
  • Strong expertise in content modeling, schema and taxonomy design, navigation and labeling systems, and enterprise CMS or DAM platforms.
  • Ability to analyze large, complex content ecosystems and simplify them for users and stakeholders.
  • Exceptional communication skills with the ability to explain complex concepts clearly and concisely.
  • Collaborative mindset, experienced in cross-functional and multi-stakeholder environments.
  • Comfortable balancing rigor with flexibility, knowing when to enforce frameworks and when to allow evolution of content solutions.
  • Proven experience in freelance or contract-based engagements is a plus.
